This week on Winning In Business, Angus Pryor Number one Google-ranked dental marketer in Australia and Practice Growth Specialist will be sharing with you simple steps to boost your energy, it’s a game-changer.

Simple steps to boost your energy. Today, I didn’t want to talk about energy specifically, although that’s one we probably should talk about. But I want to talk about exercise because in my experience, here’s a quote from Richard Branson, who they asked him, What was the number one thing for him that helped them be successful in business? And he said it was an exercise.

That’s an extraordinary quote, from one of the most successful business people on the planet. I mean, think about that. Of all the things Richard Branson could have said, he said, exercise. So let’s talk about exercise. Now. Pardon me, just as a reminder, as this series, which is about becoming a learning machine, it comes from a quote from a guy called Charlie Munger, Charlie Munger is a billionaire. I think he’s still with us. He’s in his 80s, a very wealthy man, and arguably a very wise man as well.

And here’s what he said, I constantly see people rise in life. That’s what we want. And winning in businesses, who are not the smartest will thank God for that. And sometimes not even the most diligent, hooray! But they are learning machines. And that’s what we want to be as Charlie Munger says, they go to bed a little wise than when they got up, and boy, does that help, particularly when you have a long life ahead of you.

So today, we’re going to talk about exercise. And as I said, there’s that quote from Richard Branson saying, he attributes that to one of the main things for his success, he actually said the number one thing I have to say, for me personally, exercise has made a huge difference. You know, as a business owner, let’s be really honest, it can be really stressful, you know, I heard a business guy Naveen Jain and other billionaire talking about business. And he said, businesses like the human heart, you know, if you see it on a monitor, it goes up and it goes down, and it goes up and goes down. And what that shows is, you’re alive isn’t, that is not the case with the human heart and it’s also the case with business. If you’re, if at all straight, well, that’s, you know, for the heart, that means you’re dead, you’re flatline, we don’t want that.

So, we do have those highs and lows, and exercise can be a great way of sort of counteracting that. Now, the one thing that I’ve, for us to be a learning machine, this is the critical message here, you have to figure out what works best for you. I can tell you what works for me, but that doesn’t, you know, we have something called species variability, you know, when I believe it or not, I worked in the pharmaceutical industry at one point, and they would do these tests with, you know, clinical trials, on in some cases, 10s of 1000s of people, but you’d occasionally have people with drugs didn’t work for them.

Like, you know, I had a friend of mine who, Ibuprofen didn’t do anything for him. And that’s and that concept is called species variability. We’re not all exactly the same. So while we can say, Well, you know, the advice is in relation to exercise that we should find 30 minutes a day, and I’m sure that’s true for most of us. Who knows, maybe some of us can get away with a bit less, who knows, maybe some of us need to do a bit more. So the question is, how do we become a learning machine? In relation to exercise. Let’s start with this. Is there a single person watching this that doesn’t think that exercise is helpful?

I doubt it, now look, if you’ve got severe medical issues, then I dare say, you know, raising your heart rates, probably not good, and in which case, go and see your doctor. But nevertheless, for us to be a learning machine, it’s about doing a little test, you know, for a week, maybe two weeks, see how the results are for me, for you, not what everybody says, remember species variability. And then say, Did that test work? Yes or no? Let’s move on to the next test. So tI tell you one thing that’s been a game changer, two things that have been a game changer for me in relation to exercise. The first is and this is around habit.

If you want to go for a walk in the morning, or the evening, or run so I do put your clothes out the night before so I go for a run most mornings and I don’t even think about it because I’ve made a decision to put my sneakers, my shorts my T shirt out the night before so that when I wake up, I put those clothes on. It’s like that puts my oh yes, you’re going for exercise and off I go. So that would be one thing you could test.

The other thing you could test is the type of exercise you do. I’m going to spend a week where I do a cross trainer every day. Or I’m going to run or I’m going to lift weights or whatever, do that test for a week. How did you feel? Does it work for you? Does it not work for you, some people like me, are very happy doing the same thing every day. I’ve been doing this morning writing for years now, and I love it. But there are other people who hate the idea of running. And for us to be learning machines, it’s about learning about ourselves and figuring out what works best. So some things for you to try. But just try one thing at a time.

You know, maybe it’s about you just need to exercise more often, in which case, choose a time, put your clothes out the night before and then just go and do it and see how that feels. test that for a week. It could be testing with your exercise in the morning, or your exercise after work. That would be another thing you could test.

A third thing you could test would be the type of exercise you do. But just choose one thing, what is it? What are you going to choose? Choose one thing whether you you need to be doing more exercise, or you’re going to test whether it’s morning or night? Or which type of exercises, go and do that test might pay attention? How do you feel how successful were you in doing that? And then finish that and go to bed a little wiser being a learning machine.

Hope that’s helpful. I’d be really interested to hear how you go with the little test on exercise. Certainly for me personally and for Richard Branson. It’s a game changer. Before we finish up today, a little gift from me to you, which is I’d like to you know, dentists when I speak to them, they want more patients and we want to win business. Absolutely.
