This week on Winning In Life, Angus Pryor the #1 Google-ranked dental marketer in Australia will be sharing with you how scarcity can be super helpful in your business.
The truth about scarcity. Look, I just couldn’t avoid standing in front of these, they are called the Yarrow. And they’re pretty amazing. I think anyway, I want to tell you a little story. Last night, I had date night with my wife, and we went out to a restaurant we’d never been to. And as I’m sitting across the table, of course, staring at her eyes but just like corner of my eye, behind her is the sort of counter for the restaurant that we’re at.
And they were, you know, making coffees and stuff like that. But they’ve got one of those glass fronted display units, and there’s a whole bunch of desserts there. And they did look very attractive. And I’m sitting there talking to my wife. And I’ve got little cheese cakes and chocolate brownies and little pavlovas and various things.
I’m watching as you know, I’m talking to her, and then I can see there’s three of these cheese cakes, and then one of the staff comes and picks out one and it’s gone. And then it’s down to two, and it’s down to one and muffins and other things. And, you know, it’s like my anxiety levels are increasing, because I was thinking, I’d like one of those. But I’m going to miss out.
And the truth is, I didn’t actually end up having dessert at the restaurant at all. But but there was something in me that sort of competitive thing was going, I’ve got to get one of those. And the fact of the matter is that scarcity can be very helpful for using our life because like last night, when I’m sitting there watching these desserts going, if you want to do more, if you want to do more of something, you can use scarcity to cause that and on the flip side, you know, a lack of scarcity and abundance, you can cause it to make something less attractive.
So if there’s something you want to do, then you can make it well, you feel like it’s going to disappear. And that’s because, you know, maybe another family member is going to do something. So for example, if there’s something that I want to do more of, then I’ll put it out centrally. And I know that I better grab it because someone else is going to get it and that can help make you actually do that more.
On the other hand, if there’s something that you don’t want to do, then having an abundance can add reduces that scarcity and you feel less likely to want to do it. So that’s how scarcity works. It can be super helpful in business. You know, we today, believe it or not, we’re settling on a house while we’re selling our house.
And I wanted to go out and do something nice and I found a restaurant. And they’re completely booked out. They’re only open a couple of days a week and that makes me want to have it. And so using scarcity in your life and in your business can be very effective. Now a little offer for you today and a little bit of scarcity. For a limited time.
