Winning In Life: What Are You Grateful For Right Now?

This week on Winning In Life, Angus Pryor the #1 Google-ranked dental marketer in Australia will be sharing with you about gratitude – what are you grateful for right now?

What are you grateful for right now? And I wanted to talk to you a bit about gratitude. It’s something that we hear a bit about, but I just wanted to tell you a personal story. I am right now and Sydney, in the midst of in some ways, the heaviest COVID number of cases that possibly Sydney’s head at any point the whole time. It’s big in an Australian context, and it’s small in a global context.

And this question of gratitude is something I’ve really been giving some thought to, you know, the truth is, at this moment, I am super grateful because a family member has been able to have some elective surgery, they had to wait 18 months for it, but it’s actually happened. And, you know, in a Medicare system where we didn’t pay a penny for it, we had to wipe but we didn’t pay a penny. And, you know, it occurs to me, there are many things in this scenario that could have gone either way.

Some people could have looked at this and said, Well, we had to wait 18 months, that’s outrageous, blah, blah, blah. Some people could have looked at this and said, Can you believe it, we got surgery that would have cost 1000s and 1000s of dollars in the private sector, and we got it for free. You know, as we’re driving home from the hospital today, I drive past and there’s a guy looking through a bin, you know, like, I don’t know what he was trying to find food or what the case was. And the reality is that for us about being gratitude, it changes what our brain is looking for.

There’s an expression, I say, you get what you go for, seek unusual find. It’s like in the back of your brain, this thing called the RAS. It’s a filter that you programmed to look for it. And if you’re looking for gratitude, you’re going to find it. I mean, it’s kind of a tricky situation, you know, where we find ourselves like right now, I think it’s the record number of cases New South Wales has ever had, but what do we choose?

Do we choose to be grateful and look for the things that you know, like the sun came out today? Or there’s clean air here, you know, etc? Or do we choose to focus on the negative things about what’s not happening? Because that will determine our perspective, it will determine our trajectory and ultimately, it determines our own happiness. So what are you grateful for right now?
