Would you like to be wiser?
Hi everyone. Angus here, multi award-winning practice growth specialist. Now look behind me – there are lots and lots of books, and indeed, there are more books there as well. To be honest with you, I’ve read every single one of those books. It’s taken me a number of years to do that. I really enjoy reading. One of the things that is really amazing about reading is that if I were to pick almost any one of these books, this, in many cases, is a person who’s put probably years, maybe even decades, of work into this. And it’s a chance for you to get that knowledge, for me to get that knowledge, in a pretty short space of time, investing an hour or two in some cases. I’ve just had a new book turn up today from one of my favourite authors, called Patrick Lencioni. If you’re in the leadership space, then you absolutely want to be reading him. And the beauty of Patrick is that his books are fables, so it’s like a story. Honestly, most Patrick Lencioni books I’ve read in about 90 minutes, and I can’t put them down. It’s like a really compelling story, but then there’s business principles as well.
Now, at the moment, I’m reading this book, The Wealth Money Can’t Buy, by a guy called Robin Sharma, and he’s got a really interesting quote in here from, I’m just gonna – I’ve marked the page here. This is from a guy called Charlie Munger. Now, Charlie Munger is Warren Buffett’s business partner – Warren Buffett, at various times, the richest man on Earth. And here’s what Charlie Munger says. Charlie Munger is certainly in his 80s: “In my whole life, I have known no wise people who didn’t read all the time. None. Zero.”
What an amazing statement. In his whole life, he’s known no wise people who didn’t read all the time. None. Zero. Now, I know some people don’t like reading physical books, and you can definitely listen to stuff instead. But if we want to be wiser, then why not take advantage of the wisdom of all these people that have literally poured out their life’s work? Up here, I’ve got biographies, I’ve got marketing books, I’ve got finance, I’ve got leadership, I’ve got business books, etc. Why not take advantage of that?
So, do you want to be wiser? You need to read more or listen more. See you next time.
