Right here is a bank statement from a US bank account showing deposits from Amazon because, a number of years ago, I wrote a book. The beauty of this is that it’s a gift that keeps on giving—literally, every month I get royalties in that account. It’s not big money, but the truth is, what did I do to earn this month? Nothing. I did absolutely nothing this month because I did the work years ago. Writing a book can be a way to earn additional income, and I truly believe everyone has a book inside them. My book was about running a business—specifically, a dental practice—and I’ve written other books too.
The other benefit is the credibility it gives you. If you write a book related to your field, it can significantly boost your reputation. Now, you might be thinking, “Angus, I wouldn’t know where to start!” Well, I felt the same, so I found a book-writing coach who helped me plan each chapter and key points to cover. The book that’s probably sold the most, The Dental Practice Profit System, was mostly written on a flight from Sydney to Los Angeles and back. I had a clear plan and simply poured words onto the page with zero distractions. That book keeps paying me every month for something I created years ago.
