Is Your Practice Moving Too Slow?

The pace of change.

Hi everyone, Angus Pryor here, multi-award-winning practice growth specialist. Today, I’m in regional Victoria, in a town called Moe—spelled M, o, e. When I was a kid, people joked that it stood for “Moe moccasins on everyone,” referring to a style of boots. It was a bit of light-hearted fun. What I find absolutely shocking today, though, is this DVD store behind me. Yes, in 2024, there’s a store selling DVDs.

Think about Blockbuster and other similar stores; they were all taken over by streaming, weren’t they? But here, in a small town of around 10,000 to 15,000 people, some of the old ways still hold true. For your healthcare business, the pace of change can also depend on the size of your city. In healthcare, I’ve observed differences such as whether practices use online booking systems, digital X-rays, or electronic patient records. Smaller towns tend to adopt these innovations more slowly, but this delay offers an opportunity. By staying ahead of the curve and being the first in your area to adopt new technology, you position yourself as a leader.

Seeing this DVD store now makes me think it won’t be here in a few years. The same goes for healthcare businesses that resist adapting. Stay in front of trends rather than letting them overtake you. See you next time!
