The Legacy You Leave

What Will Your Legacy Be?

In the world of healthcare practice management, we’re always chasing the next big thing. Growth strategies, new tech, better systems. But sometimes, life throws us a curveball, reminding us to pause and take stock of what really matters. In my podcast, Practice Growth HQ, I mentioned how these moments can shift our perspective and help us focus on what truly counts in the long run.

That happened to me recently when I heard about the passing of Dr Bill, a Facebook friend of mine. We never met in person, but his impact on the healthcare community was undeniable. His dedication to educating and supporting others created ripples far beyond his own practice. And it got me thinking. What kind of legacy are we building?

For many of us in healthcare, life follows a familiar pattern. Learn, earn, then what? We spend years honing our skills and building financial security, but at some point, the focus shifts. The question becomes not just what we achieve but what we leave behind.

Dr Bill’s story is a powerful reminder that our work is more than just day-to-day tasks. Whether we’re easing pain, restoring smiles, or improving quality of life, our influence extends far beyond the clinic walls. But are we being intentional about it?

Here’s something to try. Write your own obituary. Sounds morbid, I know, but it’s an eye-opening exercise. What do you want to be remembered for? Not just professionally, but as a person? What impact do you want to have on your team, your family, and your community?

It’s easy to get caught up in the hustle, focusing only on the next goal. But real success isn’t just about financial milestones. It’s about the lives we touch along the way.

So here’s my challenge to you. Take five minutes today to reflect on your legacy. Let Dr Bill’s story be a reminder to live and work with purpose before life forces you to stop and reassess.

And if this resonated with you, I’d love to hear your thoughts. Drop a comment or leave a review. Let’s build something that lasts, not just in our businesses but in our lives.
