Winning In Life : What Do You Want To Do More Of?

This week on Winning In Life, Angus Pryor the #1 Google-ranked dental marketer in Australia will be sharing with you about what do you want to do more of.

What do you want to do more of in 2021? Now you might be thinking, “Angus, why are you showing me a fruit bowl?” You may be aware of a book by a guy called James Clear called “Atomic Habits”, and he talks about the fact, he actually mentions fruit in his book. And he says that if you want to eat more fruit, what you need to do is place the fruit in a place that’s very easy to see.

Tai Lopez talks about something which is called the availability bias. It’s a cognitive bias where we are more likely to do something that is available. And so you can use this principle to help you do things that you want to do more of, for example, if you want to eat more fruit, there it is, it’s sitting very prominently. But you can also use this principle to do less of the things you don’t want to do.

Now, the truth is I do have a bit of a sweet tooth, and so there is occasionally chocolate in the house. And in that, that’s our pantry there. It’s right up the top of the pantry in a container. I certainly, if I open the pantry, I can’t see it. It’s in a container. It’s at the back. It doesn’t mean I don’t know that it’s there, but it means I’m using this availability bias where I don’t see it, and unless I come specifically for it, I’m not going to grab it.

I do the same thing in the fridge. If I would’ve gone and opened up the fridge there, the things that are on the top shelf, we like those little cucumbers, the cukes, blueberries, raspberries, sort of snacking food that’s easy to grab that’s much healthier than putting sort of a whole pile of doughnuts or whatever. So that’s the availability bias. And it’s basically the things that you want to do more of, get them sort of front and centre, and the things that you want to do less of, hide them ’cause it’ll mean that you won’t eat them or whatever the case is as much.
