Are You Wasting Your CPD Hours
Let’s be real.
Most dental professionals treat CPD like a chore.
Find something quick, get the points, move on.
But if that’s your approach, you’re missing a massive opportunity.
In the latest episode of Practice Growth HQ, I sat down with Abby Corrigall, CEO of Enzo 4D and former General Manager at the ADA NSW, to talk about how dentists can make their CPD actually count.
Abby’s been around the dental game a long time. She started as a dental assistant, climbed the ranks, and now runs a company that’s revolutionising hands-on learning. So when she talks education, it’s worth listening.
CPD Has Changed. Have You
Fifteen years ago, if you wanted CPD, you went to the association or maybe a university course. That’s changed.
Now there are hundreds of options out there. Some are amazing. Some are a complete waste of time.
Abby put it bluntly.
“Clinicians have to decide themselves what is classified as education. You’ve got to decide where you sit on that spectrum.”
In other words, there’s no referee here. It’s on you to pick CPD that’s not just compliant, but useful.
Strategic CPD Means Smarter Practice Growth
If you want CPD to actually help your business, here’s what Abby recommends.
Pick your path.
Don’t just do any old course. Choose a focus area that excites you or fills a gap in your practice. Want to get into clear aligners, implants, or paediatrics. Commit to a path and go all in.
Be realistic about your time.
Some courses take a weekend. Others take 18 months. Abby says modular or uni-based programs can be brilliant, but only if you’ve got the time to follow through.
Watch out for weekend warrior courses.
You know the ones. Big promises, flashy marketing, and little follow-up.
“Be cautious of weekend warrior programs. Some courses do need time to teach.” — Abby Corrigall
Without proper mentoring and support, that CPD is just theory. And theory doesn’t change your bottom line.
Hands-On Learning That Actually Sticks
Abby also shared how Enzo 4D is changing the game with their patient training models. These aren’t toys. They’re 3D printed from real patient scans, and they’re helping dentists boost both their confidence and case acceptance.
Forget pig’s heads and cadavers. Yes, that used to be the norm. These models are clean, accurate, and practical. Dentists are using them not just to train, but to help patients see exactly what their treatment involves.
It’s one of the smartest tools I’ve seen in dental education.
