Can you do the skink?

Can you do the skink?

Hi everyone, Angus Pryor here multi-award-winning practice growth specialist. Now in my hand here I have a tiny little lizard called a skink. I don’t know if you’ve come across these before I used to catch these when I was a kid. And there’s a business lesson, believe it or not from this little guy that we can apply in 2024. Now you see, he’s squirming a little bit, he’s got a long tail, these are quite harmless. And what I’m going to do, I’m going to put him down and he will run off. Not too heavy. Now there’s a special skill that the skinks have, you see, they’re not that big. And when they face danger, one of the things that a skink can do is it can drop off part of its tail. Now if this ever happens to you, it’s quite unnerving. You grab it, like if you were to grab it by the tail, they can literally detach their tail. And then the rest of the skink runs away, and you’re left with this kind of squirmy little thing. And the truth is, this is a good business lesson because one of the things we must do in business is adapt. And there are times where we need to shed part of what we’re doing and replace it with something else.

You know, one of the things that sets man aside from other animals, apparently, is our ability to adapt. So, if your year last year was not a great year, then you’ve got to look back and say, well, what worked well and what didn’t work well and what are the things we can do to adapt? It’s like the skink. It’s like, let’s jettison that part of what we’ve been doing. It’s not usually that you’re just going to completely stop doing things, but maybe it is. It’s more that you adapt. It was a little bit over here; we need to bring it a bit over here. And for my business, were making different product offerings this year, we’ve realised there’s a change in the marketplace. What we used to do is not working as well, we need to bring it over here. So, my question to you is very simple. Can you do the skink? See you next time.
