The Pursuit of Happier-ness / News / By Dental Marketing Solutions The pursuit of happier-ness.Hi, everyone, Angus Pryor here, multi award winning practice growth specialist. You know, I’ve been reading a lot in the past about how to get happier. Because if we’re going to be better in business, you know that internal game affects our external game, doesn’t it? Now I interviewed Janine Alice recently from Boost Juice. And she said that, for her happiness is about having different buckets. You know, it might be she does some exercise, she goes surfing with a friend, it could be with a family could be with a partner, it could be with work, etc, etc. But the goal is to be happier not to be happy. Why? Because happiness is actually a byproduct. You can’t shoot for happiness. You know, the sort of pursuit of pleasure actually leads to kind of unhappiness, this is the irony. Michael Hyatt says that happiness is as a result of making progress towards a meaningful goal. You know, if you shoot for happiness, you’re actually going to be unhappy. But we can shoot for happier-ness. In fact, this is something that Oprah describes. In my team, one of the buckets that we shoot for, we’ve got a company value of fun. And so, each week we go for we’ve got a spinning wheel that’s it there, and in this case, the person gets coffee and cake and it’s just a little thing that we can do every week. Sometimes it’s appreciation. Sometimes it’s a lottery ticket, or scratchy or whatever. But it’s just to be happier. What’s a bucket that you can be adding to on your life to make it just a little happier than where you are? Catch you next time.
