What’s LOVE got to do with it?
Hi everyone, Angus Pryor here, Australia’s number one Google ranking marketer.
Now I am reading a book at the moment called The Advantage by Patrick Lencioni. And he poses something that I’ve just never thought of, you know, there’s that song, what’s love got to do with it? What’s Love Got to do got to do with it. And he poses a question in business, which I’ve just never thought about before, in one section of the book, and the book says, it’s The Advantage, but it says why organizational health trumps everything else. And in one part of the book, he’s talking about accountability. And now if you’ve got any kind of leadership team, you know, supervisors, practice manager, whatever, two very profound things that he says, the first thing is that if you’ve got people in your team coming to you going, Oh, Mary’s not doing this, and Jimmy’s not doing that, and so on. It’s probably because you don’t keep people accountable. What he says is, and I think this is quite interesting, the more accountable you hold people to the more likely they are to hold each other accountable.
So, if you’ve got lots of people coming to you going, oh, so and so’s not doing this, and they’re afraid to keep each other accountable, it’s because you’re not holding people accountable. So that’s the first thing, but this is the second one, which is, he says, actually, when you hold someone accountable for their own actions, it’s the loving thing to do. And he says, like, that is not a word you use in business books. And yet, the more you’re able to say to someone, Hey, you said you were going to dot, dot, dot, but you haven’t done it and wrapped up in that is and I’m prepared for the fact that you know, we might have a confrontation or you might find this you know, distressing or whatever the case may be that that’s actually a bit kind of a loving thing to do than just to sweep it under the carpet. So there you go, What’s Love Got to do with it? Well, it’s about keeping your organization healthy.
