A fun way to achieve an important goal

A fun way to achieve an important goal.

Hi everyone, Angus Pryor here, multi award winning practice growth specialist. Now I’ve got here, some weights I’ve got a book that I’m reading at the moment on Neil Armstrong. I have 1.5 kilos of licorice bullets. Family members started working there. And I have the coffee that I’ve just drunk. Now why am I showing you those four things because the reality is, at this time of year, it’s a time when people are thinking, Hey, I’ve got a goal that I want to achieve. Maybe you want to lift some more weights, get healthy, maybe you want to read more, maybe you want to cut down on sugar or chocolate, I’ve just today started a 21-day challenge to stop with sugar I ate a fair bit over the Christmas break. And maybe for some of you are to have less caffeine, whatever the case may be. Now we can say to ourselves, oh, I’m just going to do that and hope that it goes okay. And as Yoda says, there is no try there is either do or not do. You know like you can’t just try to do it you need to decide on it.

But here’s a fun way to get your goal to work. And I know because I’ve done it, and it works. If you say for example, I’m going to quit sugar for 21 days, which is what I’m doing, then you need to offer up publicly something that you’re going to do that you really don’t want to do if you don’t stick with your goal. And so, for example, one of the ones that’s really powerful is to make a donation to something that you don’t believe in. You know, I don’t I’m not going to try to offend anyone. But it’s like, if you’re an anti-cat person, you know, the cat lover’s association of Australia, maybe it’s a sports team that you really hate, maybe, you know, it’s politics, maybe it’s giving money to a different party to what you support. But if you say that publicly, if I don’t quit sugar for 21 days, if I don’t lift weights, you know, three times a week for the next month, I’m going to make this donation I can assure you if you do that publicly, it’s a very strong motivator. We’re told Sigmund Freud said in his book that mankind is drawn to pleasure and away from pain and the fact is moving away from pain is a stronger motivation for most of us. So, offer to make a donation to something you really don’t want you don’t like and that will motivate you to achieve your goal. See you next time.
